Senior Accountant
Our esteemed Client who is based in Thika is a Super brands SME in the food manufacturing sector. He is seeking to hire a Senior Accountant who is hands on and highly experienced in manufacturing sector.
ROLE PURPOSE
To oversee and manage all accounting and financial functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, general ledger operations, cost control, budgeting, financial planning, reconciliations, and aging analyses. The role ensures the integrity of financial records, effective supervision of accounting staff, and alignment of financial management with organizational goals.ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership & Supervision
- Directly supervise Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Collections Officers.
- Oversee accounting team performance, workflow, and staff development.
- Coach, train, and mentor accounting team members.
- Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate general ledger and financial records.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely statutory reporting, tax returns, and regulatory compliance.
- Reconcile all accounts, including bank, supplier, and customer balances.
- Perform regular aging analyses for receivables and payables to monitor outstanding balances and risk exposure.
- Accounts Receivable & Collections Management
- Monitor outstanding debts and implement strategies for timely collection.
- Supervise the collections officer to ensure adherence to company policies.
- Evaluate credit risk and recommend actions to minimize bad debts.
- Analyze aging reports to prioritize collection efforts.
- Accounts Payable Management
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices.
- Review and approve payments in line with company policies and budgets.
- Resolve supplier discrepancies and maintain good supplier relations.
- Liaise with procurement to ensure competitive payment and contract terms.
- Conduct aging analyses of payables to optimize cash flow.
- Cost Control & Budgeting
- Monitor expenditure and implement cost control measures.
- Assist in preparation of departmental and organizational budgets and forecasts.
- Provide variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Implement measures to safeguard company assets and minimize financial risks.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation.
- Monitor compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Financial Planning & Analysis
- Develop financial models and forecasts to support management decision-making.
- Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
- Assist management with strategic planning, investments, and capital expenditure decisions.
- Treasury & Cash Flow Management
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements.
- Monitor bank balances, optimize cash management, and coordinate financing needs.
- Approve and track company disbursements in line with cash flow planning.
- Continuous Improvement & System Enhancements
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and system improvements.
- Ensure the accounting system and financial controls support business growth and compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA(K) or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of accounting experience, including supervisory and financial management experience.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting.
